hi labguy,
You mentioned that you find the chants fanscinating, at first, it kinda weird when i heard it, then when u get used to it, it is really pleasing . I know that music can stimulate our brains. like bethhoven musics, having it in a background while studying can help a person to increase his memory, the upper left or right has it's own use or map.
In buddism chants, it's probably true too , it has some effect that it stimulates our 5 senses (or 6 senses, if you are very good) if regularly use. After a good meditation, my senses are so sharp that i am aware of little sounds like wind blows, then after few days, ussually we tend to lost it he heh e, unless we keep it regular habit daily.
I am still quite lazy sometimes to do full meditation, and i hardly been into trouble lately, so sometimes, i used it like a tool box sitted in the garage, i only get it when it's needed.

We can still meditate in different ways even doing our little chores, for full meditations, it's just hard to do at home, coz phones always rings and computer is just on the corner..

.. i probably book in a one day meditations somewhere here again.
Have you tried a full course meditation?
