Anyway, going back to the question in this thread, I am a non-theist; but I have a very keen interest in religion (the history and philosophy aspects).

Thanks for shedding some light on that, skygazer. Yes, the techniques you mentioned do sound very appealing. Another technique that I find fascinating about Buddhism are the chants.

hi labguy,

You mentioned that you find the chants fanscinating, at first, it kinda weird when i heard it, then when u get used to it, it is really pleasing . I know that music can stimulate our brains. like bethhoven musics, having it in a background while studying can help a person to increase his memory, the upper left or right has it's own use or map.

In buddism chants, it's probably true too , it has some effect that it stimulates our 5 senses (or 6 senses, if you are very good) if regularly use. After a good meditation, my senses are so sharp that i am aware of little sounds like wind blows, then after few days, ussually we tend to lost it he heh e, unless we keep it regular habit daily.
I am still quite lazy sometimes to do full meditation, and i hardly been into trouble lately, so sometimes, i used it like a tool box sitted in the garage, i only get it when it's needed. tambayan/birgits_giggle.gif We can still meditate in different ways even doing our little chores, for full meditations, it's just hard to do at home, coz phones always rings and computer is just on the corner.. tambayan/coolio.gif .. i probably book in a one day meditations somewhere here again.

Have you tried a full course meditation?

i am a muslim. and yeah it's hard for me to have that harmonious relationship with people of different faith as mine. with those negative images that go with the islam religion, it's kinda hard. the sad thing is they (especially the media) are associating terrorism with Islam which for me kinda suck. i mean everyone is capable of terrorism, i mean either you are a muslim or a christian or whatever religion you have. and those terrorists, they are only claiming as muslims. for me they are far from being muslims. which is unfair to the whole muslim humanity. nadadamay kaming mga inosente.

Its good that you are standing firm and strong for your faith and doing your part on righting a common stereotype and I truly commend you for that. smile.gif

Anyways, I'm Roman Catholic.

yeah i am a proud muslim. smile.gif thank you.

REligion can be also a preference of one's personal belief and faith.

Believers can claim it is the only truth. So, it is not just as simple as to say which one is right or wrong, whichever you think will work for the kind of person you are and which one makes sense to you.

People recommend what they believe, and i only suggest not to completely lose your independent thinking.

" trying to look for REAL one"
I think they all claim that they are REAL.. tambayan/4_6_2v.gif So instead of looking for the real one, try to look for the belief that will help you be a better person, to be good to yourself and to your fellowmen to live a harmonious life.. biggrin.gif

Yeah.." walking the path is more important than knowing the path" as it said in Matrix.

It has always been said, it's your actions that counts. Also, ask yourself, what are you looking for? A guide for your present life here on earth? Nowadays, we have many sources, without being attached to any religion.

For my choice, I can take anything whatever makes sense to me. It convenient for me to follow one source what most makes sense to me, I always keep my independent thinking, and I welcome any knowledge that available out there.

But if you wish more than that, as a guide to where you will lead "AFTER" your life here on earth, there's heaps of religion that will tell you that.

For me, I give importance of my present life here on earth, it is not important what happen after my death, as noone really can prove which one is the truth, this is just all faith of a belief that will always stays as a belief, when it is proven, then that religion is not a belief anymore, it is a facts. Then we can stop arguing. tambayan/033102fight_1_prv.gif

true! tambayan/thmbup.gif tambayan/thmbup.gif tambayan/thmbup.gif
for me it is more important to live for the present while you are still living than after death.. who knows! there is no life after death.. if your dead, that's it! it's possible right? "do good live well..." biggrin.gif

Yes, i agree too.

And besides, say, if I lived like a "christian way of living, but I just didn't mentioned his name, I am still going to be judge that I will go to hell?( if only there is such a hell. )
What is most important? Our actions or acknowledgement of the name of a certain God?

I hope whoever is that God is understanding. tambayan/groots.gif

tambayan/thmbup.gif I prefer action rather than words..
Sometimes people who are always going to church are the ones who are matapobre, madamot etc... tambayan/Thumbs_Down.gif and the one who are teaching the good news are the ones breaking the 10 commandments.. I guess that's the irony of life... tambayan/4_6_2v.gif

You like actions (praxis) rather than words (creed)? Well, perhaps you can look at the principles of Unitarian Universalists. They are amongst the few Christian sects that I admire. (Recognition and respect for same sex marriages is one of the admirable things they practice.) tambayan/thmbup.gif

Check out their site and check out their principles link as well.
