Well, some of the people I knwo here in States,, they have great jobs and big houses and good life... smile.gif

But back in Philippines,, probably because of the economy. Kung mababa lang ang mga foods and clothes,, filipinos will probably gonna save the extra money to save for their child's college tuition or something like that and get their children into a good college and finish college...

I agree.

I think it's not the economy at all. Looking back at history, the Chinese mestizos were already above the natives. Many were businessmen and hacienderos.

The problem that I see with the native Filipinos is the "puwede na yan" mentality at minsan masyado tayong mukhang pera at show-off sa mga kadugo. Yung mga nagDDH sa ibang bansa, marami sa kanila ang nakapagtapos ng college pero after 15 years, katulong pa rin? Why?

Usually, they stared with the menial jobs pa nga, nung nakaipon nagtayo ng maliit na resturant hanggang sa kumita, nagexpand.. and so on and so forth.

It's with the Filipino mentality.

Why the Chinese or for that matter, the Jews & I also notice a burgeoning Muslim Filipino mercantile class? Because they have homogenous languages & cultures. They agree on what a Chinese, Jew & Muslim is. Same goes with the EU & UK nations.

People will ask, why the US with its plurality? Because English is their national language & they accept that they are mostly immigrants. (I like australia better because they are acknowledging their history of penal colonialism & mass immigration at the cost of displacing the native Aboriginal populace). Even Singaporeans thrive on plurality & made English their national language.

Filipiinos are divided & insecure about their identity. We can't decide on our national language (siguro shortcut texting na lang?). We argue over our national hero so we don't have a national role model. We still make each other feel insecure about wearing Tatak Pinoy.

We see scarcity while foreign investors see abundance of opportunity (otherwise, they should've packed up & left if they were really self-respecting businessmen). We see it as a mark of privilege to be above the law rather than be ashamed for breaking it. We see image as more important than the truth based on the totality & context of facts.

While we operate under this paradigm, we as a Filipino race, will progress at a turtle's pace & Filipinos who operate by principles of good governance & the rule of law will be at a disadvantage & be exploited.

Mga signature pinipilit gayahin para narin sumikat which equals increase in self esteem. Tsk tsk tsk. Kung nandito naman sa abroad success is measured in how many cheding's and houses you have. It all goes back to colonial mentality and yes crab mentality ng pinoy.

The Chinese are not homogeneous as we perceive them to be... there are the Hakkas, Hokkiens, Cantonese, Teochews, Mandarins.... I've even heard that di rin daw magkasundo masyado ang mga Hokkiens and Cantonese...

It's with the tamaditis syndrome!!

I dont agree that Filipinos are 'less' successful. It's more of an issue of our people not being able to stand united. I see this occuring here States-side. Our people are less supportive of each other and would rather be jealous and/or more focused on out-doing each other.
