take the chinese for example. matatanong mo lang: bakit karamihan sa mga big businesses dito sa pinas eh pag-aari ng mga tsinoy?
let's compare a common chinese guy and a common filipino guy.
the chinese guy, when he went abroad, told his parents before leaving, "mom, dad, I wanna go out of the country." the parents will then ask why. then the son will answer, "i want to make my own business and earn lots of money."
on the other hand, the filipino guy says the same thing to his parents, telling them he will go abroad. when asked why, he will answer, "i want to work and earn money for a living."
so what's the difference with "making my own business" and "wanting to work"?
generally, there's not much difference. but the filipinos in this sense will probably imply "working under someone who will provide them salary. in other words, he/she will become an employee." whereas the chinese will imply "building up his/her own business, developing it and expanding, and will be the one to control his/her work."
that's the general difference. "working under employment" means you cannot control your salary, and the money you receive is actually given to you by your employer. "doing business" means much more. you control your finances and everything else that goes in and out of it. that means you not only have control of your money, but you also control the products that you sell.
so at least you know why there are many chinese people in the world who own businesses than filipinos do. it's because they have a much wider sense of work, and they do not work simply to earn a living; they work to become powerful and successful in almost everything else.
a piece of mind brought to you by shinigami.

I agree with you. Most Filipinos are still tied up to that "get good grades so that you can finish school and get a stable job in a great company" mentality. We should be past that line of thinking. THe most successful people in the world are not employees. They may be business owners, investors, celebrities, etc. But very few (if any) employess.
That's why I gave up my career as a Physical Therapist to build my own business. I have never met a successful PT (retired with lots of cash) but I know of several people who own businesses and are now reaping the rewards. One's a computer shop owner, another's a franchise owner, another has a home based business, etc. Different backgrounds, same end result: success.

Yes it is quite true. Now I am also starting my own little business, with contacts coming, the only thing in business is how to try to be honest in many ways. I think it is one of the things that will make you successful.

This is not always the case. Henry Sy (the guy who onws SM) was poor when he left Chine with his family at a young age then started by vending his wares (shoes!) on his back. Now, he has SM's scattered nationwide. John Gokongwei Jr. (owner of Mini Stop) also started on his own. Now his 24 hour stores are directly competing with the established 7-11. Lucio Tan Started as an employee in a tobacco factory before venturing to set his own.
Although there are some lucky guys who inherit vast fortunes and a great business, a larger percentage of millionaires are self-made.

yup yup you're right, they were start from the scratch talaga, at naging millionario dahil sa sipag at tyaga
It is not always the case na sasabihin ng pinoy sa magulang nya na pag pupunta ng abroad, "i want to work and earn money for a living"
ngayon, sasabihin nya, "i want to work and earn money for my business"

How true! I have lots of friends who are PT's abroad and they are saving cash there in order to establish a business here. After all, a 40 year old Pysical Therapist may not be able to treat patients due to their own back pains.

think positive! if you base your own success with others' failures, talagang walang mangyayari sayo... i mean, magpapa-apekto ka ba?
Like your given example, nakaka-awa, pero kanya-kanyang diskarte sa buhay yan...

In my opinion, Filipinos are infatuated with high paying jobs. How often do I hear, "this is the perfect job for me. My salary is high and the company's benefits are great." A few months later, I'd hear them complain, "this job is agony. My salary does not keep up with my expenses. My boss sucks. The compny treats its employees badly...." and so on.
There's nothing wrong if you opt to be employed or self employed. However, if you don't take steps to control your life, don't complain when others do.

Para bang walang sense of national pride. Lol, we should look at our own weaknesses and learn from them but therefore, we must have confidence with ourselves as a people.

Even with pinoy business men. Hindi masyadong nag ta-take ng risk. Chinese business men like to gable. TO prove my point, punta ka sa mga casino anywhere in the world.. puro intsik laman.
edz- 02-13-2005
